2. Intro:

- Over the past 50 years - technology has become a key element to peoples lives.

- Half the global population are on the internet - more people than ever before.

- Internet has transformed business, education, government, healthcare and how we interact with one another - KEY driver of social evolution.

- Development of smart phones and devices means people can connect more rapidly and frequently.

3. Access to the internet:

- In the 1960s - internet used by US government to transfer data.

- 1990s - World Wide Web Introduced

- 1999 - 255 million internet users

- 2006 - 1 billion internet users, rising to 3.4 billion in 2016

- Improvements in VOIP - opportunity to offer cheap communication services - number of broadband subscribers increased - 0.82 to 13.76 per 100 people in 17 years

- 2017, UK household 7.4 connected devices. - Greater demand for swift connection speeds.

4. Digi. Devices:

- 2020, 5.19 billion own mobile device, 66.69% of population - rise from 53% in 2017.

- This increase has led to 53% of all web page requests now coming from a mobile phone. - mobile phones account for half the time spent online.

- Desktops still account for 44% of all web page requests.

- Even though mobile phones more prominent, many people use a variety of devices to go online.

5. Searching

- 89% of consumers begin searching with a search engine.

- 53% of social browsers research products on social media 

- Research, Entertainment, shopping.

- 2019, customers of ages 16-64 spent $620.01billion online on fashion/beauty.

6. Online Vid:

- Internet users also spend a lot of time online videos and VLOGs. This is due to the introduction of smart devices which allow easily online access.

- In 2019, 90% of internet users between ages 16-64 watch online videos. This has increases form the development of smart TVs and greater streaming channels.

7. Consumer trends

- Consumers are now using mobile phones more regularly to access the internet - increase between 2012 and 2017.

- Computers used to be the majority, slowly declining between 2012 and 2017.

- Rise of social media - consumers using the internet for a variety of different activities. 

- 42% keep in touch with friends

- 29% research/ buy products - this in itself shows how consumer search habits have changed. 

- Business change the way they advertise, more on online marketing rather than traditional.

- Expansion of technology and internet has dramatically changed our lives.

- More connected than ever before

- Our reliance on the ever changing technology will enable the future expansion of our lives and businesses.

- Expansion will enable more parts of the world access to internet, however, greater competition between companies and competitions, leading to a greater spend on online advertising. 

- We know technology and the internet will now be in our lives forever, therefore as the demand increases, we need to learn to adapt.
